Well here we are in the Spring of 2013 and despite the fact that we are now in early May we are still waiting for the warmth of summer to settle in. It’s coming but it’s taking its time this year. What we have had plenty of is RAIN, which has been great for the new hedges and trees that were planted last Autumn: they have got off to an exceptionally good start and everything is lush and green which is great.
Between the rain showers we have managed to get one big project well and truly started: the new kitchen garden now has all its eighteen beds cut and a brand new irrigation system laid in. It was quite a job !
The soil looks as though it will be really good: a nice deep loam with underlying chalk, a good structure, very few stones and free draining. This is a huge stroke of luck and quite unusual for this area. The beds have all had well rotted manure dug in and they will now be left for the rest of this year and vegetable growing will start next year. Now for the fencing !
Looking forward to new WWOOFERS arriving soon .
