The early years: 1800s-1950s
Le Moulin was built in the 1800s as a watermill (“Moulin” means “mill” in French). It served the local economy until larger factories were installed in the area and it was cheaper for local farmers to mill their wheat elsewhere.
Home residence: 1950s-2007
Le Moulin then served as a private home under several owners, until Anthony Hyde bought it in 2007. He had seen the place as early as 2002 while horse-riding in the area. Anthony immediately knew he would one day buy the place and use it for his dream of building a special place within nature.
Work & Stay: 2007-2017
For the next ten years Le Moulin was part of international exchange programmes such as WWOOF, WorkAway and HelpX. In return for helping to run and maintain the place, young men enjoyed the company of likeminded people and the many activities in the surroundings. Between 2007 and 2017 more than 100 people stayed at Le Moulin, some staying for months a time. Many friendships and lasting memories were developed during that period.
Now: 2018 onwards
Le Moulin is moving on to its next stage: as Anthony is stepping back from running the day-to-day operations of a summer camp full of young people, he wishes to offer the place as a venue for already existing groups that can make good and creative use of this special place.
